Don Davies is President of Magnusson Klemencic Associates (MKA), a 185-person, award-winning, structural and civil engineering firm founded in 1920 and headquartered in Seattle. His portfolio of design work includes mixed-use, high-rise, Performance-Based Design towers as tall as 105 stories and located in more than 19 countries and 50 major metropolitan centers.
An industry champion for the promotion of urban density, sustainable design, and low-carbon construction, Don is a founding member of the MKA Foundation, the Carbon Leadership Forum and BuildingTransparency.org, and a member of the leadership team that created the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3)—a free, open-access database and tool that helps identify building materials containing lower-embodied carbon.
Don serves on the Advisory Board at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, as well as the Executive Board at the International Association for Life-Cycle Civil Engineering. Named a Senior Fellow by the Design Futures Council in 2020, Don frequently lectures on biomimicry and resilience in structural design, and he has co-authored multiple articles centered on reducing embodied carbon within the built environment. He also mentors MKA’s Sustainability Technical Specialist Team.
